ISTISHEHAD
Some of the brethren have asked me to prepare a lecture on istishehad (martyrdom-seeking). In shaa Allah, we will try to do it later, but for now, I will briefly touch on this subject in order to clarify it in short order now.
First of all, istishehad in Arabic means seeking martyrdom in the sabeel of Allah (the cause of Allah), and this is a condition for any man who comes out to implement jihad, because he has come out seeking shahada from Allah because our main goal is to become Shuhadaa on this path, to die in this way and to be granted the shahada from Allah.
But if we speak about martyrdom, related to “martyrdom-seeking” operations, or operations where a person immerses themselves (in the enemy) or if he is injured and can’t get out, then according to Shari’ah he can detonate a grenade, or put on a belt to blow himself up along with the kuffaar or apostates?
So we must first determine the meaning of the word shahid within the Shari'ah. And there is no disagreement among Islamic scholars of antiquity and modernity that the shahid is the one who was killed in the sabeel of Allah. This was said by all Islamic scholars of all schools of thought - the one who was killed in the sabeel of Allah.
Then the question arises as to whether he was killed by his own weapon, or by weapon of kafir – and it does not matter at all, because on the day of the Battle of Huneyn one of the Sahaba (companions of the Prophet) killed himself with his own sword after he had hit the kafir’s armor by his sword, and the sword ricocheted and hit the Sahabah man in the neck. He died, and when other Sahaabahs approached and said: “O Messenger of Allah, this man is a suicide” but the Prophet said: "No, he is a shaheed" - This man is a shaheed in the sabeel of Allah.
Because even if he was killed by his own weapon, it all depended on his intentions: why he did it, and how he did it. And the Prophet said: “All affairs are considered by their intention". And in the Shari’ah there is a concept of adventure-dive into the ranks of the enemy, when a person is alone or when one throws himself in a bunch of kafirs, he becomes a shaheed.
And there is a second position for the shahadah, when a person intentionally kills himself in order to kill along with him a huge number of enemies of Islam and thereby brings benefits, such as occurred in the biography of the people of the Ukhdud (rut), when the young man told to the King that he would kill him only if he put an arrow in the bow and says “Bismi Rabbi hazyal Ghulam” (with the name of the Lord of this young man) and if you use an arrow in that way, only then you will kill me. And this young man actually killed himself, because he had explained to the king how to kill him, how to achieve his death, and when he did so, people Believed in Allah.
And Allah has revealed the verses about the people of the Ukhdud in the Qur’an. And as Sheikh ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said, and other Islamic sholars said that this act has benefited Islam, and that in this case he was allowed to destroy himself, because this was good for Islam and Muslims. And also, nowadays, when a man is being captured by infidels or apostates captured him and that person carries a lot of information about the military bases of the Mujahedeen, their number, who they are, or how to supply them with food and weapons; this man knows those things who helps the Mujahedeen in plain words; if this man was captured by apostates, and under torture he might give them all this information, then according to Shari’ah, he is considered as a murderer for each one he gave info about.
That is why Ibn Hazm Az-Zahiry (consider the explicit meanings of words of Qur’an and Sunnah) great, the Islamic scholar said: “There is no doubt that if a man was walking along the river and saw a drowning man, and does not throw himself into the river, and does not help him, then he is considered him a murderer by the Shari’ah. And he must answer for it, because he could have saved him, but he didn’t.”
And also in the current situation, we know that none of the Mujahedeen don’t know secrets about the ways of help to us, etc. And if this information starts to go out, it would be a devastating loss for jihad. And any of the mujahedin, who was taken as prisoner can bring a wealth of information. And most of them understand that the infidels and apostates will not leave them alive.
Therefore, when a similar situation took place in Algeria, when they asked a smilar question to Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim in Saudi Arabia, he answered the following question: The Mujahideen are being executed by hanging in public, with people jeering at them, and in that case the prisoner Mujahed can commit suicide in prison, in order not be mocked at by kafirs.
And Muhammad Ibn Ibrahim said: “Yes, it's even better for him than if the infidels expose him to the public and everyone would see the humiliation of Muslims”. It would be better to commit suicide in jail, because that person knows that he will not survive.
Similar to this question has been asked of the Islamic scholars at all times: if a person was at sea on a ship and he can not swim, and the ship caught fire What should he do? If he is jumps into the water, he will drown himself because he can not swim. If he stays on the ship, it will burn.
Abu Hanifa, Shafi'i, and Imam Ahmad, and many islamic scholars have been unique in the fact that this person has the right to choose the death that seems easier for him. And also, if a Mujahed is being surrounded or he is wounded and he can blow himself up, then it’s better for him to do it when the infidels are approaching him, in order to hit them also.
But if there is no other way, then that person must do so with the intention to preserve Islam and Muslims, and not to replace the infidel’s work by his surrender to prison. And the same thing in the Shari’ah, no Mujahed has the right to capitulate to infidels, and this capitulation is considered the same as fleeing from Jihad, if a man was surrounded, and then he threw his arms up and surrendered. This was allowed at first, but then came the Shari’ah came to ban it, and nobody got the right to surrender, even if he saw that the battle was hopeless.
And we have no doubt in that. There were many examples when people were going to join the enemy, with the sole intention to become a shahid. But today, Allah gives us a great opportunity, a person can go up to a bunch of enemies with the intention of inflicting great harm.
So contemporary Islamic scholars, such as Abdullah ibn Jibrin, one of the leading scholars in Saudi Arabia when he was asked about the permissibility of the shahadah, when people blow themselves up with the kuffar, Ibn Jibrin replied: Yes, and this can be done if the injury will be caused to infidels. And the harm to infidels is not as the ones carried out in Palestine, when the explosion injures only one police, but when doing great damage to them.
When these trucks were blowing up here in Chechnya, when Hawa Barayeva and others carried out the first operations of shahadah, then for 7000 km away from here, in the trash of Buryatia, in Ulan Ude in the building of the Interior Ministry, they surrounded it with the concrete blocks at a distance of 50 m. In Buryatia, Allah stroke terror into the hearts of kafirs, and despite the fact that there were no Muslims there at all, they surrounded themselves with concrete blocks to prevent this attack by a truck, which in principle could not appear in Buryatia - it could not exist unless a miracle from God at that time.
And at the time of Sahabah; Umayah bin Hannan reported that the Prophet said: "Strive for Paradise, whose width is like the heaven and the earth".
Or when Anas ibn Nader threw himself against the piles of the pagans coming into them alone, knowing that he was going to die. Or in times of Abu Ayub al-Ansari, they came to Constantinople, where one of the Muslims who rushed into the ranks of the Byzantines and became a shaheed, and when everyone else said: “Allah says in the Qur’an do not kill yourselves and do not throw yourselves into destruction.” Abu Ayyub al-Ansari got angry and said: “Do you understand these verses in that way?” They asked: “How should they be understood?” He said: “These verses were revealed about us, about the Ansar, when we wanted to engage in trade in order to recover our property which we spent in the sabeel of Allah, and He called this trade occupation with life, as throwing oneself into destruction”. And he said: “Do not call this act a suicide. Do not call this an act a suicide, because this action can be commit only by those who seek Allah's pleasure. “How come in the hadeeth of the Prophet: 'The one who loves the meeting Allah, Allah loves meeting him. And the one who hates meeting Him, Allah hates meeting him'”.
And only the one whom Allah has given the opportunity, and strengthened him and wants to meet with him in his life afterwards, only such can commit this act. This action, which in shaa Allah, I will explain in other lectures in more details.
And lastly I would like to ask all our brethren, whom we love very much and we hope that we will meet either in life, or in the life hereafter where we will be together. As came in the hadeeth of Mu’az: “One is resurrected with the ones he loved”. And today there are people who doubt whether is there any need and if one can perform it in the current conditions, or when we have no power and so on. This is something that Satan incites people with, and therefore the
Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that Satan sits on the path of Jihad and when man wants to go to Jihad, he says to him: “You will go to Jihad, and your wife will marry another one, and you will be killed and your property will be shared”. The Prophet said: “Whoever disobeys him in this, I promise him paradise”.
Satan is working with those who really want and who have sincere intentions. But be truel to Allah, and Allah will be true to us all.
Until that moment, when I got here, there were a lot of people who were coming and saying that there is no jihad; that they make war for oil, or that there is FSB. But when I came here and saw what was happening, and met with the brethren who were here, and honestly, I will not lie, it is as if this worldly life intoxicated me before, and I was in another world, and only now I began to understand that this is real life, this is what Allah calls us to. And we’ve mentioned this in dozens of lectures about the Sahabah, the Taabi'een (the ones following the sahabah’s path), the great scholars of Islam, of their jihad, and it is as if Allah is testing us: You said it, so show it by your actions, to know whether you are sincere to Allah or not.
I'm not going to praise myself, because I do not deserve this and I'm worse than anyone here, but it is a great opportunity and a great mercy, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) "Left for jihad – are the guests of Allah. And Allah has chosen them among all others "
And Allah says in the Qur’an: "And We will certainly test you until We know the Mujahedeen among you and ‘the patient’ who will go to the end”.
And we are only one step away from the reward of Paradise and only one intention.
Come out here, join, and participate wherever you can. Do it in any other places, try to communicate, to get in touch and harm the infidels in any way you can, because jihad is by any lawful means, in shari’ah,so we can destroy the power of the kuffar. Any way, our main goal is not to harm them - rather our main goal is to gain the pleasure of Allah.
ولا تنسونا من صالح الدُعاء
