شهدت جمعة آزادي الحرية سقوط أربع واربعين قتيلا من المتظاهرين في سورية. إضافة لمقتل ستة من الضحايا في صفوف المشيعين. وبينما استمرت حملة الاعتقالات التي تشنها السلطات السورية ضد المتظاهرين في درعا ومحافظات أخرى، وضعت المعارضة السورية شروطا لإجراء حوار وطني شامل. وتقارير ترجح إصدار المحكمة الجنائية الدولية أمرا باعتقال الرئيس السوري بعد ورود أنباء عن اكتشاف مقابر جماعية في درعا. وحزب الله يستنكر العقوبات الأميركية بحق سورية معتبرا إياها تدخلا سافرا في الشؤون السورية. ورئيس البرلمان العربي على الدقباسي يتعرض لتهديدات شخصية بعد إصراره على إدراج مناقشة قضية سورية على جدول الأعمال. بينما أفرج عن المعارض السوري أنور البني بعد انتهاء محكوميته التي قضاها بتهمة نشر أنباء كاذبة

اقتصاد
الرئيس السوري يستقبل وفدا من مجلس المستثمرين الكويتيين الذين يؤكدون عزمهم على زيادة استثماراتهم في سورية. ووسط تقارير دولية عن تقلص السياحة في سورية مما يؤثر بشدة على النشاطات الاقتصادية المتصلة بها ووضع خطة اسعافية لسياحة دمشق وتخفيض أسعار البرامج السياحية، تجاوزت المبالغ الموضوعة بتصرف الخطة الاستثمارية في محافظة الحسكة عتبة الخمسين مليون دولار. وتوقع وصول الانتاج من القمح لهذا العام ثلاثة ونصف مليون طن مما يؤمن الاكتفاء الذاتي من الحبوب. فيما سيتم الإعلان عن برنامج لتشغيل الخريجين الشباب في الجهات العامة من قبل الوزارات والجهات العامة. وغرفة تجارة حمص تطلق خدمة طلبات التوظيف وفرص العمل على موقعها الالكتروني

نقلت وسائل إعلام عربية أنباء اتساع رقعة الاحتجاجات في سورية واقتحام الجيش عدة مدن سورية من بينها معرة النعمان في محافظة إدلب. وكشفت صور جديدة وجود مقابر جماعية في مدينة درعا. ومحللون يجدون في أحداث الجولان محاولة سورية لإبعاد الأنظار عن الاحتجاجات الداخلية. وباريس ترى أن هنالك علاقة بين الاضطرابات في سورية وتأخر تشكيل الحكومة اللبنانية. فيما دعت واشنطن الرئيس السوري إلى قيادة مرحلة انتقالية أو الرحيل

من الصحافة السورية
وزارة الداخلية ترخص لأول تحرك شعبي بعد صدور قانون التظاهر. وتعبيد خمس وسبعين بالمائة من الطرق في دير الزور خلال الأسبوع القادم بكلفة تفوق المليون دولار. ووضع خطة لتطوير الواقع الزراعي في محافظة طرطوس في مجالات التأهيل والتدريب والوقاية من الأمراض. فيما مديرية الزراعة بحلب تكافح ست وأربعون ألف هكتار مصاب بصدأ القمح وفأر الحقل. ومقتل رئيس فرع الأمن السياسي بحمص في تلكلخ على أيدي العصابات المسلحة حسب تعبير مواقع مقربة من السلطات السورية.

Top stories

Azadi Friday (Freedom Friday) witnessed the deaths of forty-four demonstrators in Syria, in addition to the killing of six funeral goers. Meanwhile the campaign of arrests staged by the Syrian authorities against demonstrators in Deraa and elsewhere has continued. The Syrian opposition has established conditions for the holding of a comprehensive national dialogue. Reports consider it likely that the International Criminal Court will issue an order for the Syrian president’s arrest. This follows the emergence of news of the discovery of mass graves in Deraa. Hezbollah has rejected the American sanctions against Syria, considering them to be blatant interference in Syrian affairs. The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Ali Al-Deqbasi, has faced personal accusations following his insistence on including discussion of the Syrian issue on the agenda. Syrian opposition activist Anwar Al-Bunni has meanwhile been released following the end of his sentence, which resulted from a charge of disseminating false reports.

Economy

The Syrian president has welcomed a Kuwaiti Investors Council delegation, who stress their determination to increase their investments in Syria. This is amid international reports of a contraction in tourism in Syria, which is severely affecting associated economic activities. A rescue plan has been put in place for tourism in Damascus, and tour package prices lowered. The sums placed at the disposal of the investment plan in Hassakeh province are in excess of US$50 million. Anticipated wheat production this year is expected to reach 3.5 million tonnes, guaranteeing self-sufficiency in grain. A programme to employ young graduates in public bodies will meanwhile be announced by the ministries and public authorities. Homs Chamber of Commerce has launched a service for applying for employment and job openings on its website.

Society

A young Syrian couple have cancelled their engagement because of differing opinions on recent events in Syria. The Syrian embassy in Algeria is filming protestors outside the embassy and threatening them with arrest. Meanwhile those loyal to the Syrian authorities have prevented the holding of a planned conference in support of Syria’s youth movements in Beirut. The Kuwaiti authorities have suspended the granting of entry visas to citizens of Syria and four other countries. Meanwhile Syrians have partially responded to opposition calls for a general strike.

Syria in the International Press

The Arab media has meanwhile relayed reports of the broadening scale of the protests in Syria, and of the army raiding a number of Syrian towns including Maaret Al-Naaman in Idlib province. Images have emerged of mass graves discovered in the city of Deraa. Analysts consider the events in Golan to represent a Syrian attempt to draw attention away from the internal protests. Paris believes there is a relationship between the upheavals in Syria and the delay in the formation of the Lebanese government. Washington has meanwhile called on the Syrian president to lead the political transition or get out of the way.

The Ministry of Interior has licensed the first demonstration since the passing of the Demonstration Law. 75% of the roads in Deir Al-Zour will be metalled over the coming week, at a cost in excess of $1 million. A plan has been put in place to develop agriculture in Tartous province in the areas of qualification and training and disease-prevention. Meanwhile the Agriculture Directorate in Aleppo is tackling 46,000 hectares afflicted with wheat rust and field mice.
